Description
This application is developed for BAIF DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH FOUNDATION, for their livestock development programme conducted in rural areas, across various state of India.
This program essentially involves cross-breeding of bovine (cattle and buffalo) animals via artificial insemination process, with an intention to develop high milking yield animals, hence increasing the household income, whilst keeping track of the progenies born in programme and their pedigree/parentage.
A cattle development centre is the basic business unit/office, from where the livestock development programme is implemented. These centre are manned by para-veterinary professionals. Primary objective of this app is to serve as a digital assistant for these professionals.
Breeding via artificial insemination involves conducting series of activities to get a female animal (cow or buffalo) pregnant, using a straw/dose of frozen semen of a high pedigree male, and consequently delivering a calf (preferable a female) of desired characteristics; and additionally triggering lactation in mother animal for milking.
Following are the series of activities that are required to be done, as part of breeding process:
• Artificial insemination of female animal when it is in heat, using semen from an appropriate sire (male animal).
• Insemination follow-up and pregnancy diagnosis after 60 or 90 days (cows and buffaloes respectively) after artificial insemination. If the animal is found pregnant, it is scheduled for delivery after 280 or 310 days of insemination (cows and buffaloes respectively).
• Pregnancy follow-up is done after calving (or abortion) to ascertain the status of mother and calf.
Various features of the application cater to recording and scheduling of the above mentioned primary breeding activities, and other activities supporting the primary activities, like enlisting of households and animals, billing, accounting and stock keeping etc.
This app is developed, with primary focus, to be used by para-veterinary professionals employed, self-employed youths and independent contractors associated with BAIF DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH FOUNDATION. But, it can also be used by other para-veterinary professionals involved in similar activities.
A sample-centre comes pre-installed and a user can keep records of, up to, 5 villages, 10 customers/households and 50 animals (cows and buffaloes).
Although the application is standalone software with its own intrinsic database, this application can become part of a larger enterprise solution. (Please contact the developer for details.)
