This is a simulated model of the world's first computer, a mechanical cosmos in a box. Discovered by sponge divers at the turn of the 20th century, the Antikythera Mechanism remained a mystery until recent advanced X-ray tomography and imaging techniques have revealed its shocking sophistication.
This software allows for an internal and external view of the mechanism with slider controls around the screen enabling zoom and rotation. A bonus feature on the top left of the screen enables the user to compute the alignment of the sun, moon and planets for any given date between 01.01.1900 to 01.01.2051
In addition to exploring this remarkable device through this simulation, we invite you to visit antikytheramechanism.com to discover the story behind its discovery, the internal and external anatomy and its possible origin.
